                 Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. How to find the latest release of ELCUT?

ELCUT is originally supported at three worldwide-known FTP
sites: SimTel, Mathematics Archives and Garbo.
At SimTel Software Repository (available by anonymous FTP
from the primary mirror site OAK.Oakland.Edu):
directory /pub/msdos/plot;
At the Mathematics Archives (archives.math.utk.edu):
directory /msdos/numerical.partial.diff.eq;
At Garbo (garbo.uwasa.fi):
directory /pc/science.
Please look through any of these directories. The version
number is always shown in the filename (e.g., ELCT30C1.ZIP
means ELCUT 3.0C, ZIP file #1).

Q2. Does ELCUT require Microsoft(R) Windows(tm)?

ELCUT is supported by its own interface library, and doesn't
require Windows to run. Anyway, it can be started from
within Windows as a DOS application, and corresponding files
ELCUT.PIF and ELCUT.ICO are included with the shareware kit.

Q3. What are the advantages of the ELCUT printed manual?

ELCUT features and working templates are described in the
MANUAL.TXT file. Furthermore, detailed theoretical
formulations could be obtained by ordering the printed
manual (see the REG_FORM.TXT file). It can save you time in
formulating the problem by choosing a proper formulation in
the manual.

Q4. What about the more powerful version you mention?

Professional (100,000 nodes) version is available, and we
are ready to provide you with further details - just contact
us via e-mail, fax or phone.

Q5. What are the directions of further ELCUT development?

We plan to incorporate new types of analysis: time-dependent
heat transfer, eddy currents, etc.; coupling analysis;
exporting field pictures to vector-formatted file (e.g.,
PostScript or CGM). We are always interested in your advice
and comments, and are open to your suggestions and
criticism.
